The road to the olympics for Maui soccer stars begins right here in Upcountry Maui on August 25-26, 2012. The Hawaii Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program (ODP) will hold the first round of tryouts for the year for our Hawaii State soccer teams. Soccer players born in 2001 and older are eligible to particpate on these teams.
Formed in 1977, the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program identifies pools of players in each age group and provides high level training to enhance and develop them for the opportunity to be selected for international competition.
This will be my daughter’s third year participating in Hawaii’s ODP program. I have seen first hand the many benefits of this program. Nikki has travelled with her state team to the ODP Championships in Arizona and this July she goes once again to Idaho to participate in the ODP Region IV camp.
The coaching staff is comprised of college and regional coaches from all over the country. It’s an amazing opportunity for someone who dreams of playing collegiate soccer. And for a selected few…someday playing for the US National teams!
