Get your Resume up to Scratch

Prospective employers need to know enough about you, your qualifications and job history in order to establish if you would be a match for the job. You will either need to write a resume, or update an existing one. You should include:

• your full name and contact details
• the past five years of job history
• any qualifications and academic achievements
• skills and interests
• a short bio or introduction on yourself (tailor this to the specific job role)

Get Applying

Once you have updated your resume, it’s time to start applying for jobs. Firstly, print out some resumes and hand them into the places where you would like a job. This adds a nice personal touch, and the possible future employer will get to meet you face to face and vice versa. Be sure to dress smartly when handing out resumes by hand!

If you are successful in securing an interview, be as prepared as possible. Research information on the company and the job role you are being interviewed for. It’s important to come across knowledgeable about the company. You should be dressed smartly for an interview. Men should either wear a suit, or shirt and tie, and women should wear either a suit or appropriate dress.
